As everybody moves to the beat of Pop music in early-1980s Dublin, sensitive teenager Conor struggles to cope with a tense family relationship, reconnect with his older brother Brendan, and, above all, deal with the hostile environment in his new public school. Then, one day, he sees her.
Tall, with long chestnut hair, a buttery complexion, and big, dark eyes; an enigmatically beautiful girl standing in front of the school’s gate, indolently observing people passing by. To get noticed by the distant girl, Raphina, Conor enlists the help of a group of teenage dreamers to form a band and, surprisingly, with every lyric he writes, the gap narrows; and with every song he plays, her heart brims over with affection. Now, before a sea of opportunities, what does the future hold for a brave love like this?
Director: John Carney
Featuring: Fredia Walsh-Peelo, Lucy Boynton, Jack Reynor, Aidan Gillen, Maria Doyle Kennedy.

Though Mark has travelled extensively, it is the nearby forests and coast that excite his imagination. Living in Ringwood at the very edge of the Newforest, he is constantly inspired and fascinated by the woodlands, heaths, meadows and the ever changing moods of the nearby sea.
The play of light and shadow on sea and land that create strange and sometimes quiet amorphic shapes are an endless rich source of ideas through which he can express his own love of the medium of acrylic itself. Mark has exhibited widely in the South of England.

As World War II rages, a teenage boy in Germany is forced to confront a terrible truth–loyalty to his country now means loyalty to a lie. When his trusted bishop urges obedience to the Nazi regime, he begins to question everything. And after his Jewish friend is taken away, he secretly listens to banned radio broadcasts and launches a resistance, exposing the truth. But in a nation ruled by fear, defiance comes at a cost–and as the regime closes in, he must decide what it truly means to be a good German.

One woman, armed with American ignorance, French arrogance, and a chest that some say she grew on purpose, bursts onto the stage in sparkles and stilettos: meet Liza Minelli and Debbie Harry’s love child. This pro-singer-turned-musical-comedian is ready to sing at you: to land her cheeky, unbelievable, and sometimes tear-jerking true-life stories into your lap.
Barbara Fernandez, fed up of Americans at university playing down Europe as ‘only a tourist destination’, arrives in Paris age 22 with a degree in theatre and a dream: to live and work there – without a French passport, or any other working papers. 10 years of chaos ensues: cash-in-hand jobs (it’s not what you’re thinking, some are singing jobs), love tussles with partners who are sometimes trench-digging, other times cult-loving and even pillow-wielding, and shaggable therapists – all delivered in powerfully funny parodies with snippets of famous songs recrafted to poke fun at a rocky road to self-discovery.
From sultry pop to classical trills and belting cabaret-style showstoppers, Barbara lustily celebrates female power amidst chaos.

You are invited to be both judge and jury as Susan Grant and Joni de Winter make their case and defend themselves against accusations of arresting bitch-face, possession on unrealistic expectations and using their cell time to finally have a ‘well deserved rest’.

Wild and Wonderful is a collection of photographs inspired by a place or a feeling; a moment captured of the view around us.
We are three amateur photographers brought together by a mutual love of photography and our emotional connection to the landscape. It’s not just about taking the image, but about how it feels to stand there, immersed in the moment. The occasional use of abstract styles invites space for the viewer to slow down and bring their own personal interpretations.
Photography gives us the opportunity to engulf ourselves in the mood of the landscape. At times it’s wild, at times it’s wonderful, and when everything comes together – it’s both!

By overwhelming popular demand, Duo Destino return to Shaftesbury Arts Centre for their electrifying performance, bringing with them the exhilarating FlamencoFusion sound that has captivated audiences across Europe.
Fresh from the soaring success of their latest original composition “Heartbeat” – a vibrant, cinematic track that has resonated with listeners across the UK, France, and Italy- guitarists Ben Bruant and Will Cashel arrive at the peak of their creative power.
Virtuoso guitarists Ben and Will deliver a musical experience that feels almost impossible: dazzling fingerwork, rhythmic percussive techniques, and an infectious energy that fills the room. Their sound is so rich and layered, you’ll swear there are more than two musicians on stage.
Their performances blend original Latin inspired compositions with Flamenco infused arrangements of well loved songs. From Albeniz to Daft Punk, Dire Straits to Frankie Valli, and the unmistakable spirit of the Gipsy Kings, Duo Destino invite audiences to rediscover familiar tunes in ways they’ve never heard before. Whether you’ve seen them before or are discovering them for the first time, Duo Destino’s return to Shaftesbury Arts Centre promises an unforgettable night of passion, artistry, and worldclass musicianship.

With a perfect mix of superb musicianship and comedy, the UNRAVELLING WILBURYS are brothers ‘Sticky’ Willy, Walter, Thumper, Blind Melon and Honky Tonk, who tell their unique story on how they became a tribute band. Now so popular that they were even a question on TV show “The Chase”, the boys spend their time travelling all over the UK, from the Orkney Islands to the Isle of Wight; from Penzance to Perth; from Southwold to South Wales; getting rave reviews and packing out theatres along the way in towns whose names they’ve never heard of and can’t pronounce.
The show features the best of the Wilbury albums (‘Handle With Care’; ‘The End of The Line’; ‘The Devil’s Been Busy’; ‘Tweeter & The Monkeyman’) alongside back-catalogue numbers such as ‘Refugee’ (Tom Petty); ‘While my Guitar Gently Weeps’ (George Harrison); ‘Like a Rollin Stone’ (Bob Dylan); ‘Only the Lonely’ (Roy Orbison) and ‘Mr. Blue Sky’ (Jeff Lynne).
The act also contains the kind of comedy only a band spending far too many nights in Travelodge hotels could dream up. So- turn off your hearing aid, put your Zimmer frame to one side and prepare for a great night out. It’s a journey you ain’t gonna forget in a hurry!

Whitechapel. 1888. Between August and November five women are brutally murdered. The identity of the killer remains a mystery. Until now…..?
It’s the greatest unsolved case in criminal history. One that continues to confuse and confound. Generating argument, debate and intense discussion.
Who was he?
What was his motive?
And how did he get away with it?
Was he a doctor, a sailor, a soldier or some kind of religious zealot intent on ridding the streets of the east-end of vice?
‘An Evening with Jack the Ripper’ will address all of these questions and more as it presents a raft of damning evidence in its quest to solve the world’s most elusive mystery. An evening not for those of a nervous disposition. Dare you venture into the sordid realms of Victorian society to recall the lives of the victims and revisit the fiend’s savage haunts?
A condemnation of the man with the blackest of hearts who preyed upon the most vulnerable members of society.
Award winning producer and broadcaster Steve Morgan has captivated thousands of people on his celebrated ‘Jack the Ripper Walks’ through the east-end of London, where he retraces the footsteps of the notorious killer and delivers a tale that continues to terrify. Now he’s adapted the story for the stage to bring the blood-soaked streets of Whitechapel direct to you.
A long-standing student of the crimes of Jack the Ripper and the era that spawned them. Steve’s obsession with the Whitechapel murders began in childhood and it’s one that he’s shared with thousands of others who’ve joined him for his celebrated ‘Jack the Ripper Walks’ through the east-end of London, where he’s enthralled, entranced and entertained people from all over the world.
A previous winner of Leicester Comedy Festival’s prestigious ‘Comedian of the Year’ and an award-winning producer, his career in TV and radio has seen him work alongside an eclectic mix of people such as – Michael Portillo, Ian Wright, Mariella Frostrup, Noel Gallagher and Wolf from Gladiators (from the old series that is…..not the new one). And now having honed this stage show on the streets where the murders occurred, he invites you to spend ‘An Evening with Jack the Ripper’…..and live to tell the tale.

Set against the harsh backdrop of the Great Depression, Of Mice and Men is the story of George and Lennie, two friends with a simple dream: to own a farm and live off the fat of the land. There are times, though, when sharp witted George feels the burden of looking after Lennie, while gentle giant Lennie doesn’t realise his own strength… As they drift from job to job, trouble’s never far away, and before long it’’s time to move on again. When the pair get work in Soledad, California, however, the dream looks set to become a reality. “There’s something of the proverbial elder statesman about Peter Knight, in terms of his place in music, which cannot be overstated. It’s not just in the quality of his playing…there’s a focus on the sheer inventiveness of Peter’s playing, in the adventurous arrangements he shares with his collaborators, and in his musical leadership”
Northern Sky Magazine:
“Since his inaugural performance with the fledgling Steeleye Span in 1970, Peter Knight has been a mainstay of the British folk scene. Never one to rest on his laurels, Peter has carved a reputation as a relentlessly questing musician “as mercurial as quicksilver”, and it is never quite so apparent as in his work with the various Gigspanner line-ups.”
The Gigspanner Trio is the beating heart from which all other lineups have evolved, and the one most loved by many for the intimacy and joy manifest in their virtuosic performances. Audiences revel in the opportunity to witness ‘up close and personal’ the almost telepathic communication that exists between Peter, guitarist Roger Flack and hand percussionist, Sacha Trochet.
This concert is an extra special one as the Trio will be showcasing selected pieces from their long waited new album.
Described by Folk Radio UK as one of the “most quietly brilliant sets of musicians in the folk world and beyond”, they take self-penned material along with music rooted in the British Isles and beyond, and with the flick of a bow, a finely chosen chord or slip of a beat, produce richly atmospheric arrangements “with notes seemingly plucked from the stars and rhythms from the equator” (Spiral Earth).
