You wait all year for a Nativity to come along and then two come along at once!
Shaftesbury Arts Centre Music and Drama Group’s Winter show ‘Nativity The Musical’ will follow their Autumn show ‘The Flint Street Nativity’ and they couldn’t be more different!
Every child in every school has one Christmas wish, to star in a Nativity, and at St Bernadette’s School they’re attempting to mount a musical version! Only trouble is teacher Mr Maddens has promised that a Hollywood producer is coming to see the show to turn it into a film. Join him, his teaching assistant, the crazy Mr Poppy, hilarious children and a whole lot of sparkle and shine as they struggle to make everyone’s Christmas wish come true.
This is a feel good and funny show that has a raft of parts for both adults and children!
The show is on stage from 26th January – 4th February 2023 with rehearsals starting at the end of October 2022.
Adult parts:
- Paul Maddens – school teacher putting on the Nativity show at St. Bernadette’s School
- Mr Poppy – Mr Madden’s teaching assistant
- Jennifer Lore – Paul Madden’s love interest who is a Hollywood producer
- Gordon Shakespeare – Mr Madden’s rival at Oakmoor School
- Mrs. Bevan – Headteacher of St. Bernadette’s School
- Lord Mayor
- Critic
- Miss Rye/Receptionist
- Hollywood Producer
- TV Reporter
Adult ensemble parts:

Children parts:

- A mixture of solo and group singing for these parts.
There is no upper age limit for the children, but anyone cast does need to look like, or be able to be made to look like, a child of primary school age.
Band:
We are also looking for anyone who might be interested in playing in the band for the show. We need the following:
- 2 x Keyboard
- Flute
- Sax

Come along and join us on 21st September at 7.30pm to see how you can get involved either on stage or off stage! If you are not able to make this evening but would like to be involved, please drop us an email at stage@shaftesburyartcentre.org.uk.
