Shaftesbury Arts Centre’s Music & Drama Group proudly present their 2025 Pantomime – The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Nigel Holmes.
Dorothy, her cheeky dog Toto and dear Aunt Em get trapped in a twirling, whirling storm that whisks them away from their Home Farm. Once the storm is over, they realise they are not at home anymore and, being hailed a heroine for killing The Witch of the East, they start on an adventure to seek an audience with the great Wizard of Oz, meeting new friends along the way. Little do they know, the evil Wicked Witch of the West stalks their every step, trying to thwart their plans and get her hands on the famous slippers.
On their journey they meet some familiar faces and new characters – the North Witch, the South Witch, a Princess made of china, a Prince who is lost in the wrong pantomime looking for his Princess to kiss, a Scarecrow in need of some brains, a Tin Man in need of a heart, a rather Cowardly Lion looking for his courage, the Guardian of the Gate and, of course, The Great Wizard of Oz.
“The classic story, filled with everything a pantomime has to offer, brilliant modern and catchy songs and all set in the spectacular visual world of Steampunk artistry.”
Tickets: Adults £15, Members & Friends £12.50, under 18s £10. Family ticket – 2 adults and 2 children – £40. No member discount on Family tickets.

The Sound of Music is set in Austria in the late 1930’s. Hitler is tightening his grip on Europe and the annexation of Austria is imminent. The people are divided into those who want to be Austrian and those who want to be part of Hitler’s Third Reich.
Postulant nun, Maria, is sent to be a governess to the 7 children of austere widower and formal naval commander Captain von Trapp. She brings music and joy to their lives while Nazi control grows. As pressure on the Captain mounts to join the Nazi’s, he and Maria fall in love, breaking his engagement to the beautiful and sophisticated Elsa Schraeder.
Maria and the Captain marry and then contrive to escape Austria with the children, helped by Max, to neighbouring Switzerland by competing in a music festival then hiding in Maria’s old convent.

Laura Henderson (Dame Judi Dench) buys an old London theatre and opens it up as The Windmill, a performance hall which goes down in history for, amongst other things, its all-nude revues.

But will she be able to convince the reserved Lord Cromer (Christopher Guest) that naked ladies on stage will bring in the right customers?

Event Details
‘Makin’ Runs’, the latest project by internationally acclaimed clarinetist Adrian Cox, delves into alternative ragtime repertoire from the early jazz era, aiming to capture and express the timeless essence of the music.
According to legend, ‘Makin’ Runs’ is a tune attributed to Buddy Bolden, heard by Bunk Johnson in New Orleans. The phrase symbolises Bolden’s vision for inventive improvisations whilst never repeating himself. The trio endeavours to emulate that spirit, crafting tight yet dynamic arrangements that honour the music’s original intent, allowing ample room for improvisational fire. The program includes compositions by Duke Ellington, Sidney Bechet, Jelly Roll Morton, Barney Bigard and many more.
Internationally acclaimed jazz clarinetist Adrian Cox, at age 41, is certainly performing at the top of his game. He is one of the leading exponents of the New Orleans clarinet and has a huge wealth of knowledge of the music and the players of the era. His unrivalled feel and virtuosity for the music he plays have led to concerts with the biggest names in jazz including two concerts with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra both in London and New York.
Adrian spends the majority of his life on tour around the world and at the time of writing this, has performed in over 30 countries in the past 18 months. Adrian is a Vandoren Artist and endorses Buffet Crampon. The trio is completed by the incredible talents of Will Sach (double bass) and Alex ‘Honey’ Boulton (guitar).

This multi award-winning show, captured recently at the Sadler’s Wells Peacock Theatre, is an extraordinary musical journey paying homage to Janis Joplin and her biggest musical influences.
Like a comet that burns far too brightly to last, Janis Joplin exploded onto the music scene in 1967 and, almost overnight, became the queen of rock & roll. The unmistakable voice, filled with raw emotion and tinged with Southern Comfort, made her a must-see headliner from Monterey to Woodstock.
Fuelled by such unforgettable songs as Me and Bobby McGee, Piece of My Heart, Mercedes Benz, Cry Baby and Summertime, a remarkable cast and breakout performances. A Night with Janis Joplin, written and directed by Randy Johnson, is a musical journey celebrating Janis and her biggest musical influences—icons like Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone and Bessie Smith, who inspired one of rock ‘n roll’s greatest legends.

They also dip into the back catalogue of each of its legendary members – George Harrison, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and Jeff Lynne (ELO), while presenting their own unique slant on what it means to be a tribute band.
Songs such as ‘End of the Line’, ‘Handle with Care’, ‘The Devil’s Been Busy’, and ‘Tweeter and The Monkey Man’ form the basis of the set, which also features additional choice cuts including ‘Pretty Woman’ (Orbison), ‘Mr Blue Sky’ (Lynne), ‘American Girl’ (Petty), ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’ (Harrison), and ‘A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall’ (Dylan) to name a few.
With music for everyone to enjoy, this is an evening not to be missed. A fabulous night out for lovers of great music. Age 11+.
