Through the Garden Gate is my first solo exhibition and takes us through gardens and landscapes.
In his renowned poverty maps of London, Booth observed a paradox: the poorest neighbourhoods often flaunted the most enchanting window boxes. This striking imagery resonates deeply with my own experiences of hardship and resilience.
I am an autistic Dorset-based artist and have a degree in Fine Art. Living with chronic pain and neurodiversity has presented me with significant challenges in navigating life and stepping outside my comfort zone. However, I have been fortunate enough to access food banks and receive free flowers through Olio, which have ignited the inspiration behind this exhibition.
My artistic focus centres on transforming flowers, landscapes, and gardens into expressive works of art. I am captivated by the interplay of colours and textures, the dance of light and shadow, all encapsulating nature’s exquisite beauty.
As a Dorset-based artist, I passionately strive to capture the vibrant hues of the natural world. Whether painting outdoors (en plein air) or in my studio, I utilise bold colours and fluid brushstrokes to infuse my work with a sense of movement and energy. While I primarily work with oil paints, I also explore various other mediums, including mixed media, ceramics, and embroidery, allowing my creativity to flourish in diverse forms.
I graduated with a Fine Art BA (Hons.) in 1991 and have since exhibited extensively, selling my artwork and accepting commissions. One of my notable pieces, Spring Blossom, is part of the Southwark Art Collection and is featured in ArtUK’s catalog. Additionally, I had the honour of recreating a stolen painting of

If you are interested, or would like to know more, come and join us on 19th May to meet some of the leaders, Youth Theatre members and hear about what we do, how you can get involved and what our plans are for the future. Sensuous contemporary ballet meets the energy of musical theatre in four distinctive short works, showing the remarkable choreographic range of The Royal Ballet’s Artistic Associate, Christopher Wheeldon.
Programme:
Fool’s Paradise
Luminescent and shimmering, Fool’s Paradise marked the first of Wheeldon’s many collaborations with composer Joby Talbot. It was created in 2007 for Wheeldon’s own company, Morphoses, and first performed in 2012 by The Royal Ballet.
The Two Of Us
The wistful songs of Joni Mitchell set the scene for the UK premiere of The Two of Us, a duet of deep intimacy and yearning. It was created in 2020 for the Fall for Dance Festival in New York, and had American ballet dancers Sarah Mearns and David Hallberg in its original cast.
Us (Duet)
Us is a tender duet danced by two men. It was created in 2017 for BalletBoyz and is set to Keaten Henson’s music.
An American In Paris (Ballet)
The Royal Ballet celebrates Wheeldon’s extraordinary success in musical theatre by performing the ballet scene from his Tony Award-winning musical An American in Paris. Set to Gershwin’s jazzy melodies, the musical is inspired by the 1951 film of the same name starring Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron. The musical went on to win four Tony awards. The full musical depicts a blossoming romance between the American G.I. Jerry Mulligan and a French ballerina, Lise Dassin. The ballet excerpt was Wheeldon’s take on one of the most memorable scenes from the film – an extended sequence in which the two central characters dance through Paris.
Cast: To be confirmed
Choreography: Christopher Wheeldon
Conductor: Koen Kessels
Orchestra: Orchestra of the Royal Opera House
Music: Joby Talbot, Joni Mitchell, Keaton Henson, George Gershwhin

Based on a remarkable true story, discover how the poor son of a miner became one of the greatest actors the world has ever known, with the help of an unlikely mentor.
In the Welsh town of Port Talbot, 1942, Richard Jenkins (Harry Lawtey) lives as a wayward schoolboy, caught between the pressures of his struggling family, a devastating war, and his own ambitions. However, a new opportunity arises when Richard’s natural talent for drama catches the attention of his teacher, Philip Burton (BAFTA winner Toby Jones).
Taking Richard under his wing, the young man thrives thanks to Philip’s strict tutelage and the guidance of kindly landlady, Ma Smith (Academy Award nominee Lesley Manville). However, as the acting world comes within Richard’s reach, the burden of his past risks holding him back forever.

Abstract art to fire your imagination.
Richard Ames – I am a retired live music tour manager/director and have been on the road most of my life visiting all ‘four corners’ of the world. I’m also a published author and podcaster. Touring over a span of 50 years means I have observed many incredible spectacles of colour and texture, which have had a strong influence on my work as an abstract artist. I’ve been painting for some years working mostly in oil and acrylic on plywood or canvas. Since retiring from touring, I am enjoying the exhibition circuit bringing my work to a wider audience of collectors.
Mal Lee – I find the colours and structures of industrial and coastal landscapes, mainly in England and Wales, to be truly inspiring but sometimes inspiration comes from the noise, bustle and colour of foreign markets and sea ports. It is exciting to capture the energy of the elements as well as the vitality of busy places. I use mainly acrylics with some oil and am always open to new ideas.
Open 10am to 4pm daily. Free admission.
