Come and get creative and have a go at making an over sized, embossed, leather effect book, which could be used as a spell book or potions book on stage as a prop! The workshop will be led by Carolyn Hopkins.
Carolyn owns and runs The Truckle Truck, and before selling cheese, she studied theatre design & production and worked backstage with Salisbury Playhouse’s Youth Theatre Group. She started making props for SAC last year, working on Spamalot and this year’s Pantomime, Sleeping Beauty. Carolyn is incredibly creative with her prop making and can quite literally create something out of nothing!
Anyone wanting to attend this workshop will need to bring the following with them:
A book! (hardback, the thicker the better)
medium weight card
thin cotton/jute type string (any natural material will work)
thin newspaper/tissue paper/toilet paper
acrylic paint – a bright colour – yellow or red work well
a dark colour for the leather finish and a gold/silver for ‘gilding’.
Tools needed are:
Skewer or knitting/heavy duty needle,
old mixing bowl,
old plastic/foil bag (plastic bag, crisp packet etc)
Session 2 (to be announced), Pen or pencil and gloves
Please come with an idea of how you would like to decorate the book – this will be done with string, so simple is best!
This workshop with be 2 sessions with the second session currently being planned.
There are 8 spaces available on this workshop, which will be run on Castle Green (appropriately socially distanced of course).
