Event Details

Inspired by Shakespeare’s essential masterpiece, the ballet Romeo and Juliet choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky and performed by the Bolshoi Ballet company.

Recorded before a live audience. Running time 2hr 45min.

The story of Verona’s star-crossed lovers has never ceased to be a source of inspiration since Shakespeare popularized the tragic passion of Juliette Capulet and Romeo Montague, whose families’ fatal rivalry will cost them their lives. The first ballet inspired by this dramatic play saw the light in the late 1930s on Sergei Prokofiev‘s vivid score.

Celebrated choreographer Alexei Ratmansky, who presented a new version of the romantic ballet Giselle last season live from the Bolshoi, is again in the spotlight in cinema series.  His adaptation of Shakespeare’s eternal classic reveals a choreography of great dramatic intensity. Bolshoi stars Ekaterina Krysanova and Vladislav Lantratov portray the tragic romance of Romeo and Juliet with passion in a theatrical and authentic staging.
